Venture’s newest EP “Pull The Trigger” is one that I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on – seeming as they are SOLD OUT of every other album!
Brett Hestla and Beau Hill have once again sifted their musical fingers between these boys and their instruments. To re-assemble and refine the path from where they left off last with their previous release “The Prisoner”.

Venture is stepping it up another notch with their approach to this album. ”Pull The Trigger” shows that Venture is expanding their creativity and incorporating broader experimentation . This album features heavier guitar riffs, edgier vocals, and bigger, badder build-ups to introduce the choruses. Once again, flawless and effortless drumming performance is consistent throughout each track on the EP. The bottom end (bass) on this album is nicely balanced.
The album starts out with light and airy vocal harmonies that are accompanied by soothing strings. Just as you settle in and get comfortable, the hard rock drums wake you up, kick you in the butt, and start this rocking song “Red Handed” – Track 1.
“Bitter” – Track 3, is a song that everyone can relate to. Everyone battles with their inner self, has insecurities, is impatient, gets angry, gets lonely, and still makes it through the day somehow. Blake has written himself into his lyrics for this track. The lead guitar riff compliments the vocal melody nicely, and brings a smooth transition to the outro of the song.
“Goodbye” – Track 7, is one of my top favourite songs on this album, mainly because dueling guitars ROCK! This song gives the album a second jump-start right at the end of the album.
The couple things that make this EP imperfect, are the 2 tracks that are also part of their full-length album release “The Prisoner”. I would have liked to see the band add something to the song “Goodbye,” which was one of the two tracks to be carried over. Time is money in the recording studio, so there are – of course - two sides to consider. Tthe instrumental version of “Not Too Late” is simply the song re-burned without vocals. It’s awesome for film features, but again, nothing to set it apart from the other (almost identical) version.
All in all, this album far exceeds any expectations that one could hold of an 8 song EP.
