Black Water Rising – Brother Go On EP

When I pop in a new album I generally know within the first 20 seconds or so if im going to like the band or not, and not that staring at the cover of an album tells you if its going to be a worthwhile album or not, I was expecting to be blown away by these guys. The album cover didn’t lie, for having only 4 tracks on their EP it will be well worth the wait for a full length album. Black Water Rising is made up of ex members of some pretty big bands in the New York area, they have members from Stereomud, Boiler Room and Dust to Dust. Not too shabby of a lineup if I do say so myself. As for the music, its got a very dirty, groovy feel to it similar to some old Alice In Chains or Black Label Society.

Brother Go On” is the lead off track for this EP, its a relatively short track but damn does it pack a punch. It has a very catchy chorus and some driving guitars, the one thing that really pushes this song to be as good as it is are the excellent vocals from Robert Traynor. This guy can surely wail, I would be content if you threw this song on a cd 5 times, I guaranty that I would still jam out to it.

Living Proof” has a very groovy feel to it, and a very catchy chorus. It really showcases Traynor’s vocals, im digging this song hard.

Hate Machine” has a kind of Down-ish sound at the start of it and then moves right into a very different sound compared to the last 2 tracks. Great vocals on this track as well.

If this EP is anything like what their full length album will be like, then im going to have to start cleaning off a spot on my Top 10 list for it. Traynor’s vocals are spot on throughout the EP and are definitely welcome in the sea of modern rock crap that has been spewing out as of late.
