Rob Defaze-The Re-Creation

Roadies and guitar techs, we have all come to know their presence at many concerts and shows. These are the guys that set the stage up, fine tune the instruments, and make sure everything is in place for the big show.  For Rob Defaze, this was an everyday reality but merely being involved behind scenes of music was simply not enough. Stepping out from behind the shadows, Rob auditioned for 2007′s American Idol Philadelphia and met with many producers to finally work with Mongoloid Studio and Roee Star to co-produce his debut album.  Defaze released, “The Re-Creation”, in April of 2009 independently selling thousands worldwide through ITunes and Amazon.  After a large amount of radio play around Europe, US-based Rob Defaze has had worldwide publicity with singles like, “You & Yourself” and “Home For The Summer”.  Rob single-handedly writes all the songs including each separate instrument and also produced his debut album. Rob Defazes next 2010 album, “Digistrology”, shall be released under his full name than instead of “Defaze” and will feature a very digital song writing side to the future in Defaze’s music.

Complex and diverse, “The Re-Creation”, is an album that defies the conventional way that many musicians write and arrange their music.  While most bands start out an album with songs that are loud and in your face, Rob Defaze chooses to start the cd out with songs that are more mellow and ambient sounding.  ”You & Yourself”,  is captivating but a powerful song that captures Rob’s best qualities as a singer and a song writer.  Backed by a beautifully arranged orchestra, Rob captivates the listener with uplifting melodies that starts the album out on a good note.  At some points the first few songs tend to blend together and if it wasn’t for Rob’s use of powerful lyrics the songs could easily be skipped while listening to the CD.  Midway through the album, Rob displays his more hard rock side with songs like, “Over Your Shoulder” and “Hollywood”. In both songs, Rob seems to embody some of the vocal characteristics of  Axel Rose (Guns N Roses), Ian Astbury (The Cult), and Dexter Holland (The Offspring).  “Live or Let”, continues to showcases  Rob’s hard rock and almost grunge side of his work.  Probably one of the most diverse tracks on the album, “Live or Let”, seems to encompass different eras of music that include grunge guitar sounds, nu metal screaming, and industrial programming. One of the best tracks on the album, “Shoulda Known Better”, is a track that spits in your face and tells you to come get some more.  The bass line in this song is downright nasty and mean and with lyrics like, “You took it too far now you can’t speak. Kept the world by the balls and I’m not going to stop. You can all sit back and watch in denial”, makes this a song a single worthy track!

Rob Defaze has made a mark with his album, “The Re-Creation”, and it only seems that he is getting started.  On the heels of this album, Defaze is looking forward to the future with a 2010 release titled, ” Digistrology” and if it’s anything like, “The Re-Creation”, it’s safe to say that Rob Defaze is going to blow everyone out of the water!
