Venice Queen – Venice Queen

It’s one thing to say that you’re a great band but when you’re Venice Queen, their music speaks louder than words.  Exploding out of British Columbia, Canada, Venice Queen is a band on the rise and they are taking no prisoners.  Band members Ryan Bloom (lead vocals), Cole Stephens (guitars/vocals), Sean Bales (bass), and Tynan Watson (drums) started out playing cover songs of their favorite bands back in high school but later took a break for post secondary education only to reunite in 2008 to write and perform original material.  They have become one of Vancouver’s higher profile bands, selling out local clubs with the help of their rapidly growing fan base.  They have also gone on to win the Vancouver Fox Seeds Competition in the Spring of 2009. After winning the title of Fox Seeds Winner, they shared the stage with Bif Naked at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. Venice Queen are also touring across British Columbia and have plans to tour across Canada and the U.S. to showcase their high energy rock to the rest of the world.

Loud and energetic, Venice Queen’s self titled album released on June 13th 2009 packs a punch with loud guitars, amazing riffs and solos, and aggressive lyrics that will knock you on your ass but keep you coming back for more. Most notable is Ryan’s vocal work throughout the entire album.  Upon listening, one can tell that Ryan draws much of his inspiration for singing from such vocalist as Layne Staley (Alice in Chains), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and at some points Dave Mustaine (Megadeth).  The best example of this are the songs, “World Against You” and “The Fury Within.”  Ryan’s mellow vocal work combined with Cole’s hard driven guitar makes for a wonderful combination that could only be considered genius. Another note worthy track, “Dead Blank Stare”, begins with an interesting guitar intro and suddenly kicks into overdrive with Ryan spitting out lyrics that slaps you in the face and leaves you dazed.  Cole’s guitar work is also impressive with a killer solo that shows his true talent.  ”Summertime No Show”, is a song that you can’t but love and sing along with   Sean completes this song with his crafty bass talents and gives this song it’s true character and style.  ”Gracious God”, showcases the bands more psychedelic and creative side of writing with a funky drum beat, an amazing bass groove, and a guitar solo that will leave your head spinning.

Venice Queen’s music does speak louder than words. Their brand of energetic and attitude injected rock will take any listener on a rollercoaster ride of their life.  Venice Queen is creating a name for themselves in the world of rock throughout Canada and is gaining attention in North America. Their ability to create great songs and capitalize on giving great performances clearly puts them ahead of the game in the world of rock.  At best Venice Queen keep the qualities and craftsmanship of a true rock band at heart and truly shows through their hard work and dedication. It’s safe to say that good things are to come from this band and this is only the beginning in the long road to rock stardom for Venice Queen.
