The Rising Five: Edition #3

Here at EMURG, we’re always looking for the next big thing and making The Rising Five is a big deal to us. We strive on giving you bands that we feel will rule rock in the long-term. Just a reminder that these five bands aren’t put in any particular order. I’d just like to make sure I can count to five.

With that said, we give you our third edition of The Rising Five:

1. The Intersphere – Sleeping God : The Intersphere is a German band that sounds like a cross between Muse and Karnivool. They’re not afraid of heavy handed riffs, but do like to explore and experiment with their sound. Their album hits the States in February and looks to garner a lot of underground attention.

2. Beta Plus Embryo – Temper The Shape : Beta Plus Embryo may not have a lot of music out but what they do have is exciting and worth a listen. I got to see this band live and their mix of industrial and rock is going to make you dance and start a riot, perhaps even within the same song. It’s even better for me that these guys come from the New York City area.

3. I Am Giant – Neon Sunrise : This dual citizenship band (England/New Zealand) provides a different side of the spectrum, but that doesn’t mean that I Am Giant doesn’t rock any less. They feature Kim Benzie of Aussie band Dead Letter Circus on their album and takes a big leap in what can be done in the rock and alternative spectrum.

4. Karvel – You Don’t Look The Same Anymore : This UK band reminds me a bit of People in Planes. Karvel doesn’t get their point across with heavy riffs. They make up for it in thought provoking, heart wrenching lyrics. The three piece will be putting out a record in the middle of 2012.

5. Otenki – Ghosts  : This Houston five-piece has a great pop-punk sound that relates to Madina Lake or There For Tomorrow. Their energy is incredible and a label would be wise to take a good long look at Otenki in 2012. Be on the lookout for their new EP Kinetic.

The Rising Five will have five more bands in Edition #4 to whet your rock appetite in the near future. Rock is NOT dead.
